The Manuka pollen is collected by honey-bees from the Manuka tree (Leptospermum scoparium), a unique New Zealand plant known originally for its medicinal properties by the Native Maoris. The manuka bush comes from the same family as the Australian Tea Tree. The New Zealand beekeepers strive to collect the Manuka honey from the hives in a very short period of time as the Manuka flower only grows up to 6 weeks in New Zealand before its dies and grows the following year.
In the 1980's, Dr. Peter Molan, a professor in Biological Sciences in New Zealand has discovered an extra anti-bacterial property in a specific type of honey, Manuka honey and identified its extra anti-bacterial property as NON-HYDROGEN PEROXIDE ACTIVITY, which stays stable under heat or light. This activity is what makes Manuka honey so unique and has given this honey worldwide acclaim amongst doctors and the health industry alike. Manuka honey has the highest anti oxidants of all honeys and contains highly medicinal properties widely used to help numerous health issues. .
